    Is encoding really that hard?

First of all I am new to this.
Second, I am not a bone head (some my argue that point).

It seems to me that thsi whole process shoudl not be this difficult. I must be missing something........

Are there any other tools, EASY tools, that will enabel me to encode an avi/mpeg or whatever to a VCD/SVCD in an easy fashion. Example: When I drag an AVI to Nero it encodes automatically.

I have a copy of CCE trial. When I drag some of these videos to it it immediatly states it can not handle that frame rate/audio whatever....problems with about 50% of teh files......and when I get one it can handle it gives me a bunch of files that I am not sure what to do with...

    Etc.

Anyway any suggetsion we be apprecaited.....I abviously am missing something here....

Encoding is a dangerous procedure, each year 30% fail, it is best left only to the bravest men

No seriously, it should be simple. I would recommend TMPGenc, it is the best software to use. Then burn using NERO.

Unfortunately I am running at more like 70%, butI guess that is the learnign curve.....VCD is easy. The SVCD is difficult.

The main issue is....tada....you spend 5 hours waiting for it to finish, only to find it does not play!

What do you mean it "doesn't play". Does it not play in your dvd player? To play an svcd on your computer, you most likely, can't use your typical mediaplayers, you need a software dvd player such as POWERDVD or WINDVD.

ON my stand alone DVD player I get video but no audio......sometmeis I get nothing....I am exploring using a different bit rate.

But, man it should be easier.

Perhaps try a different brand of cd-r media, or downsample the audio.

Are you sure that your standalone DVD player can handle SVCD at all? Not that many players do...

Dont mean to jump in Here but sounds like you have encoded with VBR sound and although appear to work can quite frequently lose audio see my a-z (well setarips) at the start off the forum. This process adds about an hour to the whole conversion. Once you have split the sound and video then compressed to mp3 and finally encoded to mpg you should eliminate most off your problems.

Hello, the Easiest way I have found to go from DVD to SVCD is to install TMPGEnc and DVD2SVCD. With these two programs, you have only to set up the options( very easy ) and wait til the process is finished. Then burn the finished files with CDRWin. SUPER quality SVCD..
When converting AVI's, just use the TMPGEnc. Its very easy and its the best to use..( Well, I think so anyway... )

                    Hope it helps.....
