Mpg to AVI

What I want to do is convert a bunch, like 30 small mpgs to AVI, and then join them together, or join all the mpgs together in one file if possible without having to manually select each file one by one, selecting compression method and such, with audio of course.......Can someone point me to the program?

To join the MPEGs, use TMPGEnc as follows:

File>>MPEGTools>>Cut & Join

I have been having a hard time getting video/audio synched when I either do a conversion, or even in this case merging a bunch of video together, which worked great, except the video and audio get further and further out of sync as the video plays......What the heck causes this, and how do I fix it? And why does it happen, even when I joined up a bungh of mpg files?
