    Unable to playback SVCD

I downloaded an SVCD (with a .mpg extension) then using NERO "succesfully" burned an SVCD. However, when I tried to play the CD, neither POWERDVD nor WMP 6.4 will play it, I recieve the error of "unsupported format" in both players. On this machine, I don't have anything installed except POWERDVD, and divx 3.11 alpha---should I install a codec pack?

    Thank-you in advance

Windows Media Player doesn't support SVCD.

If you're going to play it only on a PC, try burning it simply as an MPEG2 file...

      Thanks for your response.

I burned the the file as a data svcd .mpg file, however it still will not play in POWERDVD. I would appreciate your help

When burned as a data disc the svcd file will work under wmp 6.4 but not POWERDVD XP 4.0. Should I install another dvd player, such as WINDVD?

WinDVD will definitely support SVCD and "plain vanilla" MPEG2...

            Thank you for that information

I would like to burn files as svcd's, because it enables larger than 700 mb file sizes to be burned (mode 2). I'll post my results
