Play back of VCD on dvd player

I use the following software to encode a VCD.

    1. I use virtualdub to create the audio file.
    2. I use tmpgenc, with the AVI file and the created wav file from virtual dub, and I split the original movie (avi file) into 2 mpg files
    3. I then use NERO to burn these 2 files onto 2 seperate cdr's

My problem is, once the VCD's are created and played on my DVD player, I get the picture speeding up every once an a while. The audio seems to be synced up ok, unless the "speed" up occurs.

Any idea's on what I am doing wrong. I am a NEWBIE to this process.

Have you tried simply splitting the file in 2, without stripping the file of sound and then loading both files in TMPGenc for conversion.

Also when you split in Virtualdub be sure to always cut at a keyframe.

Alternatively you could just load the entire file in TMPGenc and then split the resulting vcd in TMPGenc as well.

Make sure that the audio frequency is 44,100Hz and NOT 48,000Hz...

Setarip - yup, I have the file set to 44100 hz...

        Batman:

I have been using tmpgenc to split the file, as I didn't know there was a way to do this in virtualdub.

I found if I don't use virtualdub for the sound, and just split in tmpgenc, once I use NERO to burn, there is no sound.

I will try using virtualdub to split the file into two, and then use tmpgenc to encode as your first suggestion. I'll let you know how it goes...

        thanks in advance

Well, I was able to split the AVI in half using virtualdub.

On playing the resulting file, the first half, audio and video are in sync ok. The second half, audio is well ahead of video.

          Any idea's?

Read the digital-digest guide. Always cut at a keyframe.

Well, I am getting no where fast. I have tried just about every different combination to try to capture the second half of my file using Virtualdub. I cannot get the audio to sync up with the video. I have even played around with the interleaving audio skew setting.

I have tried removing the first part so that the start is where I want the movie to start at. I have hit the "move to the next key frame or I frame button" to make sure I am on a "keyframe", and I still can't get this to work.

Batman - you mentioned a digest guide, where would I find this. I need something that gives a step by step approach to virtualdub.

              please....
