I made a VCD, and it played on my powerDVD player on my computer, but it didn't play on my roommate's panasonic standalone DVD player. Does anybody know what I can do you change my fortunes?

Go here to see if the standalone DVD player supports burned VCDs and, if so, which brand(s) of CD-R it recognizes:

Video forums, video software downloads, guides, blu-ray players and media.

        I repeat:

Go here (click on the link below) to see if the standalone DVD player supports BURNED (not COMMERCIAL) VCDs and, if so, which brand(s) of CD-R it recognizes:

Video forums, video software downloads, guides, blu-ray players and media.

          vcd help

Thanks that website helped alot, just out of curiousity I check the vcd compatiblity of my friends standalone DVD (APEX AD-1200), and I saw some mixed reviews, some people said they were able to play vcd on their apex player others said they weren't. We are talking same player but different results, are these people using different MPEG-1 properties?. Besides the standard 352 X 240 resolution, are there any other MPEG-1 properties that we can change to be able to have success on DVD player if it supports VCD.

              vcd question?

I still have this VCD, but it doesn't work on that DVD standalone (apex ad-1200) that is supposed to support VCD's, what else can I do to change my fortune?

Maybe it does work... Sometimes if you just burn a VCD with no menu and track info, when you pop it into a home DVD player it just sits there spinning away, and nothing comes up on the screen. You may have to manually select the 1st track. Try pressing the 1 (one) on the DVD's remote, and then ENTER (or its equivalent) to select the track.

                Hope that helps.

If your not sure about the MPG file's attributes, I mean if it's true VCD format, try re-encoding it with TMPEGenc with the standard VCD MPEG1 setting. You can also use NERO's VCD option, which automatically checks the files and re-encodes it if necessary.

                    VCD

It read "no data" and "disc error", when I tried it on th APEX AD-1200. But it plays just fine on my PowerDVD system.

Are you sure it's a VCD and not a SVCD? If it's a SVCD I'm pretty sure the DVD player won't play it.

                          VCD

Guys, I think the the problem is solved.
Some DVD's may say that they play VCD & SVCD, and that's true, but what they don't tell you is that they don't play CD-R's and CD-RW's. So if you bought a brand new VCD it will play on your DVD (the once that support Video CD), but if you burn one onto a CD-R , it may not be able to read it, because the system doesn't support CD-R's.
And also on the boxes of some of the Standalone DVD's, if it say it plays Compact Disc Digital Video, chances are that it will read you VCD on the CD-R disc.
Some of your may know this info., but I hope this info helps the rest of you.

the problem might even be the brand of CR-r. I read somewhere once that Verbatim CD-rs were the most compatible, espacially with older CD-rom drives and stero cd players. Who knows...

Oh, also look for the word "MULTIPLAY" on your standalone DVD, that means that it can play both CD-R's and CD-RW's.
