logo appearing and distorted aspect ratio with wmp

For some time now, each time I try and play back a mpeg2 video stream in wmp 6.4, the image is vertically stretched and there's an annoying logo that appears top right. It's a set of 3 by 3 squares with a dot in one of them (a little like a noughts and crosses drawing).

This only happens in wmp: if I play the same thing using PowerDVD, then the aspect ratio is correct and there's no logo.

    Any ideas what this is?

    Strange.
When playing in mediaplayer, goto file, properties/advance and list the filters in use.

Did you by any chance install an unofficial codec?
Did you know you can SEARCH the forum? Fixes common problems too:

Found out what it is: I have a DVB-S card and installed ProgDVB software to use the card. The latest version includes mpeg2 filters. I've just uninstalled these and now all's ok again.

        Thanks
