    playback freezing and skipping

today i removed all divx and xvid codecs i had installed and installed tsunami mini pack (3.9.6). this fixed all playback problems i was having divx/xvid codecs, but another problem has arisen.

till today, i could view VCD movies without any problems, but now they all freeze, skip, show artefacts all over the screen etc., and even sound isn't working right anymore. movies are completely unusable. winding them forward usually does nothing but freeze both picture and sound or make them skip even more.

does anyone how this could have happened? i always thought VCD had nothing to do with either divx or xvid, and that VCD decoder came with windows?
i tried installing WM codecs 9, but there was no change.

    please help

    "installed tsunami mini pack (3.9.6)"

Did you check to see if this "pack" included any MPEG1-related codecs/filters?

      ummm

not really. i hoped it would inform me prior to installation and let me choose, but it just installed without asking me anything. then i noticed that xvid and divx both worked, so i was happy and didn't ask questions.

however, i never removed any other codecs than divx/xvid (including MPEG-1), so i didn't think there would be need to re-install it.
now it seems it's somehow corrupt, because VCDs are playing, but not like they should.

do you have an idea on what i could try installing to overwrite this non-functioning codec? i'm looking all over the net for past half hour, but i'm obviously looking on all the wrong places.

i'm scared of tampering too much because you never know when xvid is going to stop working

I'd suggest that you uninstall the present "pack" and then download and install the latest fullblown version - which I'm certain allows you to "pick and choose"...

        (Reboot after the installation)

umm.. right. so i've uninstalled tsunami mini pack, rebooted and chose custom instalation of tsunami full pack. i deselected all codecs and chose 3ivX and one of the MJPEG filters.

now everything works fine, divx, xvid, vcd and all other mpeg-1 and mpeg-4 videos i've tried.

            thanks a bunch!
