I'm burning avi film to VCD using Nero, the picture is very good but I only get a few seconds of sound and then none after that, does anyone have a idea where I'm going wrong here?

I've never used Nero to convert avi to videocd compliant mpeg; I think they have enough difficulty trying to do a correct burn never mind do a conversion job at the same time. So I can't help you visavis Nero.
However, if you can't get a proper videocd burn (audio/video), you could try either AVI2VCD or TMPGEnc to convert the avi into videocd compliant mpeg, then go into Nero and get it to burn the mpeg. The best about doing it this way is that you can check that the output mpeg is okay before you commit your blank CD. If you do try this method, just remember to tell Nero not to convert the file - as you will have already done so.
