svcd skips every 20-30 seconds

I have a few svcd movies, phonebooth-finaldestination2-ect, when i play them in my dvd player everything looks great, the sound is good, picture quality is awesome, but every 20-30 seconds it will lag a bit. it will skip a few then resume playing normal till another 30 seconds pass. it took almost 2 hours to watch finaldestination2-i was just so determined to watch it cause i had heard it was such a good movie. anyways, how can i fix that problem, is there something i could download or settings on my player i have to change....
