VCD or SVCD on Power DVD and Windows Media Player - 2 Problems

Whatever video source which I convert to VCD or SVCD appear to produce following problems (I must say that in both cases, the
playback works well on home DVD-players) on my PC:

    a) playback through Power DVD:
it works, sound is synchronized, but the reproduction quality is not good, specially in SVCD. There seem to be like vertical lines, visible specially on diagonal lines our round countours, which appear like with "stairs" instead of smooth straight or curved line (or countours).
Is it possible that any DIVX or XVID codec installed on my PC could be responsible for such bad SVCD playback quality? I remember few time ago, it was just fine. But I cannot remember, from when on this changed. So please help whoever knows about
    such problem.

    b) playback through WMP (Windows Media Player):
I have the latest version. Picture quality is fine, but audio is
not synchronized, there is a gap, which results in visible difference between sound and video.
Furthermore, there appears a small white square field, itself
composed by 6 smaller squares or cubes. This "6-piece" square
field is wandering kind of nervously all over the screen, in an random movement.
I have NO idea why that happens. And more important: NO idea how to get rid of it.

Would so much appreciate your help for both of these problems!
    Thanks to all.

      thank you.
i did what you said. in the control panel of windows under
"add/remove programs" (or software, i work in portuguese, sorry)
i found the Elecard codec and removed it.
I restarted my pc full ofhope that this resolves the problems, but...
      nothing.
there is still that small rectangle composed by 9 smaller white rectangles, the small upper right rectangle is just white frame and transparent inside, travelling over the screen under Windows Media Player.
Playing SVCD files under PowerDVD it continues to have this
bad pic qauality, stairs on diagonal our round shaped lines.

Under sistem info where I can find all the driver details etc.
(in portuguese: gestor de dispositivos), under "sound, video & games device drivers" (controladores de som, video e jogos),
i found under "video codecs" the following:
      3ivx D4 4.0.4 / DivX MPEG-4 (Fast-Motion) / DivX MPEG-4 (Low-Motion) / DivX Codec 4.12 / DivX.dll / Huffyuv lossless codec / iccvid.dll / Indeo v.4.51.16.2 Interactive codec / Intel I.263 Video Driver 2.55.1.16 / Intel Indeo 3.2 / iyuv_32.dll / Ligos Indeo XP video 5.2 / Microsoft MPEG-4 Video Codec / Microsoft Windows Media Video 9 / msh261.drv / msh263.drv / msrle32.dll / msvidc32.dll / msyuv.dll / Pinnacle Codec / Pinnacle PIM1 32-bit AVI Codec / tsbyuv.dll / VFAPI ReaderCodec v1.01 / XviD MPEG-4 Video Codec.

Could any of those cause the above mentioned problems? By the way, which program or codec-collection does install the Elecard Codec, and what for is this codec exactly?

I would really so much appreciate if you could give me advise to resolve and get rid of these 2 problems.
      Many many thanks in advance.

After removing the Elecard codec, have you since rebooted your computer? If not, do so - and then see if your "bouncing box" has disappeared...

yes, as i wrote before: i restarted my pc full of hope.....
definitely, i did reboot, but the bouncing box is still here.

meanwhile, i found out a very surprising thing, for which i have no explanation:
i have a tv card (pinnacle pctv pro) installed on my computer. i thought, maybe there is any conflict or so coming from there.
i uninstalled it and reinstalled, but when watching a svcd-film in power dvd, the pic quality was still bad (stairs instead of smooth lines).
while i was reinstalling the pctv pro tv-card, reprogramming the tv-channels, i opened again power-dvd and restarted the svcd-film.......
..... SUDDENLY THE PIC QUALITY WAS GOOD AGAIN!!
so i know now there is some influence, because when i turned the pctv-pro off, the pic quality in power dvd returned bad.
Result: if i want to watch a svcd-movie on power dvd, i have to turn the tv-card on, selecting composite entry without sound, in order not to cause interference to the movie sound....
have YOU any idea, what incidence the tv-card could have on the power-dvd player???

            regarding the "bouncing box":
meanwhile i used a small software "RegCleaner" and cancelled the software entries "Elecard". Result: when watching a SVCD-file (Mpeg-2) the "bouncing box" is still there, BUT: staying firm and without any movement in the upper right corner of the screen.
That's already a progress! But each time after having played such file in WMP, there is again an entry for "Elecard" under "Software" within the "RegCleaner". That means that the WMP itself "restores" the entry.
I further tried to remove ALL entries "Elecard" in the "Regedit"command under Windows XP. Result: no such file is even playable anymore in Windows Media Player. So I had to restore to previous configuration.
Well, the part of "bouncing box" in WMP (but also in other players like DivxPLayer or BSplayer etc.) seems to be partly resolved, at least it will not bounce anymore over the screen.

Have you any idea, why there is a gap of abt. 200-300 ms between video and audio in WMP while in PowerDVD it is perfectly synchronized?

And regarding the picture quality in Power DVD with the Pinnacle TV card PCTV Pro either off (bad pic quality) or on (good pic qlty), any idea why or hint how to resolve this problem differently, i.e. enabling again using just Power DVD and having good quality, without having to turn on the PCTV Pro ?

            Many thanks in advance.

I encountered the same problem with the small 'bouncing box' appearing nervously on my screen. The strange thing is that it appeared only after a few months, and it appears when using BSplayer and Mediaplayer but stays away when using WinDVD. Maybe something with the Codecs. But why after a few months and so suddenly ?
Can anybody help to solve this puzzle ?

Do you have the Elecard codec?
I thought I'd read somewhere that a bouncing box appeared after the trial of BSPlayer expired but can find no mention of it in my quick search.
This isn't a learning curve ... this is b****y mountaineering!

THe bouncing box appears also in preview functions of many packages. It seems to me that there's something wrong with a codec. The strange thing is that WinDVD has no problem, and burning SVCD CD's goes well. ?????????
