Which is better: XviD or SVCD?

I know it's a newbie question, but I just started getting into this DVD conversion bussiness and want to know whether I should invest my time converting all of my DVD's to SVCD or XviD.

What I mean by "better" is the File Size to Quality ratio.

Would really appreciate your help since I've been having EXTREMELY bad luck with DivX and XviD. Too complicated to encode and the output Never comes out right.

    Thanks in advanced.

It may be a matter of taste, and as you have already found out, how much time you are willing to spend on it. I prefer XviD/DivX.

Xvid has much better compression and in my opinion is much sharper and gives more vibrant colours when compared to svcd at the same filesize.

Avi is a container format thus holds your required codecs such as XviD + Ogg. Avi is not a video codec itself. Just so theirs no confusion.
