It would be helpful if you provided more info on the type of MPG you have, as there are several. But in general, you can "demux" (separate) the audio and video, boost the audio, then remux it back with the video. One way to do this is to use TMPGEnc (30 day free trial): File - MPEG Tools - Simple Demultiplex. Set it to the kind of MPG you have and Run. (To find out the kind of MPG you have, you can load it into VirtualDubMod, and then File - File Information.) You will then have a separate audio and video stream. Load the audio stream into GoldWave, and in the Effects menu go to Volume - Change and set the level as you wish and save it with a new name. (You can also do this with CoolEditPro, which has more options for processing and saving.) Then, back in TMPGEnc - File - MPEG Tools go to Simple Multiplex, set the MPEG type to the original file you had, load the demuxed video and the boosted audio, enter a new file name, and Run. Of course, an easier way to play your file louder is to use external speakers and crank them up. Also, some software media players (Sasami is one, as I recall) have a built in audio booster. Hope this helps.
