removing subtitles in movie

I have a mpeg movie that contains subtitles. They appear to be part of the movie (not seperate text). Is there any way to remove these subtitles?

I would appreciate your help.

If you are fortunate enough to have the subtitles appearing under the video (not on the image), you can crop that portion with VirtualDub and afterwards, again in VDub, add back a black bar of the same size.

Thanks setarip, unfortunately the subtitles are imposed on the movie and not just the black bar area.
