    playing vcd in wmp 8?

    I'm sure this has been asked before, but is there a codec or something that will allow me to play VCD files in WMP 8? Right now I just get the message that the format is invalid. I appreciate the help.

    Start the Windows Media Player. "Drag and drop" the "AVSEQ01.DAT" file onto it. It should start to play.

    Let us know of your success ;>}

      hmm...

      The movies I have are in mpeg format, and they will play using PowerDVD, but I want to use WMP. When I try to open the files using VirtualDub, it says that it doesn't recognize the file type. PowerDVD tells me that the video is MPEG-2, and that the Audio is MPEG 2.0 @ 192Kbps. That's all I know to tell you, any ideas?

        The video is not in VCD format - it's in SVCD format, which Windows Media Player is NOT able to play.

        If you're intent on playing the video in the Windows Media Player, you'll first have to convert the file to "plain vanilla" MPEG2 (using TMPGEnc, or similar). You'll also have to install and register with Windows MPEg2 video and audio filters (ivivideo.ax and iviaudio.ax), which are available for download in many of the codec packs.
