Poor Audio, Video Playback DVD Player

Have successfully burned several VCD and SVCD discs using three burning programs. All play well on the computer. However when played on my DVD Players (3) the audio and video playback is poor. For some reason I am unable to burn from my Nero program(this I realize is beside the point). Any help would be greatly appreciated.
