How to adjust brightness during playback?

    hi,
i have an mpeg file which is indeed very dark during playback in media player and wanted to know if any of you knows how to adjust brightness/contrast for playback.
I searched anywhere for a solution to adjust brightness/contrast during playback, but the only things i found were concerning tvtools or divx movies as the codec settings there support this feature.
Is there someting like a DirectShow Filter adjusting these settings and how do i "tell" media player to use the filter.
Thanks in advance, you all do a really great job,

In media player, load the file to play then select View - Now playing Tools - Video Settings. All the controls for video (brightness, contrast, hue, color) will appear. Set as you desire.

The Sasami player, I believe is capable of making brightness adjustments, as is WMP 7.1

Alternatively, Virtualdub may be utilized, by employing an appropriate filter.
