VCD playback on DVD player - sound lags

    Hi All,
I have this problem with VCD's from multiple sources which seem to result in lagging sound compared to the video when played back through a standalone DVD player. It says it will do it I have tried syncing the sound up through virtual dub reburing and got it close but it still eventually lags behind.
This has happened with ripped dvds and converted divx.
They do play back on other higher priced dvd players.
The one I use only has single laser whereas the others have 2.

If it's the laser issue why does it occur in technical terms

    thanks

    vcdhelp.com

Manually change audio (in TMPGEnc search this forum on how to)

perhaps there is a problems with your encoding (did you select the proper region) or your media, does it play properly on your PC? Maybe your cd-r or cd-rw brand is not the best (try different brands).

If the audiostream is sampled at 48,100Hz, reduce it to 44,100Hz...

The VCD is encoded for PAL, sound at 44.1.
The SAME VCD on a duel laser standalone works fine. On mine which is single loses the sound.
I suspect the player even though it claims to play VCD's even commercial VCDs fail in exactly the same manner.

If anyone can point me to definitive source about this problem I'd appreciate it vcdhelp wasnt very helpful.

        Thanks

Done that, there has been some talk about it but very laymanish.

I guess technical details of the differences between the duel/single laser players would be nice.

I'm having the same issue with SVCDs on my DMTech DM-2000 and so far there's no known reason why (other than this player doesn't seem to support SVCDs, though VCDs play flawlessly).

Well I have given up and resorted to buying a new DVD player - phillips dvd707 with a dual laser. It works great and never loses sync, all single laser jobs lost it.

I havent tried SVCD's yet I am in the process of making one as a trial but I dont expect too many issues (I hope none).

Pinky, from what I know svcd is mpeg-2 and variable bit rate encoded. VCD is constant bit rate mpeg-1 I am experimenting with TMPGEnc and you may be able to correct it with that.

                regards
