    DIVX5 Problem

    Hello

I have an AVI file encoded with the Divx 5 codec. I have tried to play it in Windows Media Player/WinDVD4 and another DVD station. It won't play in either. I then tried to convert the audio to wav using VirtualDub and it did not work. I then tried TMNpeg and it did not work. Can someone please give me some guidance on how can I convert the audio in this file to WAV or something I can use to play this file.

    Thanks

    Virtualdub:
    1. Open file in the program (This requires you to have the DivX 5 codec installed in your system. Otherwise, it won't work)
    2. Set Audio to Direct Stream Copy (If you wish to directly extract the audio in its current format) or Full Processing Mode (If you wish to extract it to .wav)
2a. If you are extracting to .wav, go to Audio -> Compression and select No Compression (PCM).
    3. Go to File -> Save WAV and give a name to the audio file.

By the way, it sounds like you missing the DivX 5 codec, since you can't play that particular file and none of the programs would open it either.

I have both dial-up and ADSL. The latter is, however, capped at 3GB/mth and hence I need to use dial-up to supplement my download needs. It's a real pain in the a**, but better than accumulating exponentially increasing debts from the extra MBs downloaded via my DSL.

        Why do you ask this?

        p.s. Rather off-topic...

            DIvx 5 Problem

            Thanks for your response

I have setup the Divx 5.02 codec om my computer and I am still receiving this message when using Virtual Dub:

            Cannot determine file type of C:\program files\english DVD-Rip Divx5.avi.

            What could be the problem

            Thanks

Maybe it's not an avi. Sometimes you will find avi-files in the net that are no avi-files and contain no information at all. To test it you can open the video in a hex-editor and search if the file contains the strings "avih", "movi" or "idx1" which should be found in an avi-file. If you have no hex-editor you can also use the windows-file-search.
              don't trust in guides

I have open the file in Virtual Dub Hex and did not find one of the mention files, just all numbers. What can I do next?

                Thanks for replying
