Is it ok to overwrite 1st pass avi in 2nd pass..?

Just wondering:

Using the multipass opt. in DivX 4.11, I ran into the question, if it was ok to overwrite the 1st pass .avi when I had to do the 2nd pass.
I said no, so I wouldn't ruin anything, but is it safe to do it, or do I wait and delete it after I did the 2nd pass...?

OK, let me explane you the stuff.

The first pass is done to analyse the movie and generate a log.file in which (you can view it with any editor), the complexity of each frame is detailed. It's true than an avi file is generated during that pass, but it's no use. The important thing is the log file.

That's during the second pass that the final avi is generated, using the log file and thus the best video rate according to the complexity of each frame.

So, no hesitation when starting the second pass. You can overwrite the avi you wrote during the first.

One more thing : if you realize that after the second pass, the generated avi is to big (more than 700 Mb ), you can restart the second pass only, after having lowered the rate. No need to do the first pass again (the complexity of the frames hasn't changed).
