    newbie 2-pass question

I am experimenting using the 2-pass DivX 5.0.2 standard with FlaskMPEG and would like to know if I can reuse the log and mv files from the first pass and redo the second pass at a different bitrate to get the movie to the size I want. Or do I need to go through the whole first and second pass procedure with the new bitrate?

One more question while i'm here: Is there a noticable difference between Divx 5 and Divx 5 pro encoding? I would like a second opinion before I install the Pro Adware version.

Thanks in advance to your reply.

Thanks for your speedy reply Enchanter this will save me 8 hours. Please excuse my ignorance but does this therefore mean that the bitrate info is not recorded in the first pass log/mv file. Just info where it can speed up or slow down ANY given bitrate to areas that need it in the movie.
      Thanks Heaps.

        Thanks Heaps.
The first pass creates a bitrate curve, which contains information on which parts of the video requires more bitrate and which other parts can make do with less. The amount of bitrate used is not relevant here. The amount of bitrate used for the second pass will vary according to the shape of the bitrate curve and will ultimately average out to the value of bitrate that you assgned.

Just make sure that you do not alter the video in any way that will change its compressibility, such as resizing, cropping, strengthening the contrast, etc.

The results of the first pass does depend on the bitrate used, it's adviced not to change the bitrate by more than 30%.

Thanks Enchanter and khp for the advice it will help alot. 30% should be more than enough to tinker with the size of the output avi.
