    Problem with X-MPEG

I have a BIG, stupid, annoying, ridiculous, boring etc.. problem!!
Whenever try to encode a movie (*.vob) to an avi file with X-MPEG I have the same message
"An error occured when trying to generate the file.
Check that you're not using the output file or the program is setup correctly."

Of course I did choose all the right options and the file is not used
    by another application...
...and yes, the output res. is multiple by 4.

I tryied almost everything and still its not working.
    Always the same annoying message.

Very, very rarely works (actually once before a month)

Please help me because I 'll go nuts!!!

well, this is probably a better solution, sorry if it isn't:

    USE NANDUB!!!!

look at my site on encoding methods, certainly, you will get DVD or NEAR DVD quality when doing a nandub 2 pass encoding. And also, the file size will be lower.

Check my site for more details, or Erci's site or even better, UnCASMS's site (um...hint: don't use DIVX v4 or 5!)

But hey, this is my opinion, I am making more guides for my site so check regurlarly.

    Peace

    Techno

For Xmpeg issues you may check "Tips and Tricks for Xmpeg 4.5" on this forum at http://forum.digital-digest.com/show...hreadid=10564.

      Perhaps it will help you.

I use mainly Smartripper, Xmpeg 4.5 and Divx4 bitrate Calculator ( http://spark.hit.bg/divxcalc ) for all my DVD to Divx conversions (2 pass encoding) with always great satisfaction (and easyness).

For video captures (TV) of less quality I use rather Virtualdub with its many good filters.

I looked at the page you told me and I did what you said (WindowsXP Update)
but unfortunately the problem is still there
Thanks by the way for your advise.

If you use winXP and If you get the error message

"An error ocurred when trying to generate the file. Check that you're not using the output file or the program is setup correctly"

          when you start the conversion

look at microsoft site for Windows update

About that, see the topic "Help: Xmpeg can't open output file in XP" at http://forum.digital-digest.com/show...threadid=10823

          Good Luck

I had the exact same problem and after countless hours of reading threads on the subject someone recomended gordian knot. Needless to say after using that program and following the tutorials on this page I have a perfect 1 cd dvd rip that looks and sounds great.

              for Zagkorn

What Xmpeg version do you use ?

I had systematically this issue with Xmpeg versions 4.30 and 4.31 and Divx 4.11 and 4.12, never with Xmpeg 4.2 nor 4.5 and Divix 4.2 or 5.0x.

I use win98SE with previously a K6-2 500, and presently an Athlon XP1600+, without any difference concerning the issues - except for the performance.

                My system is AthlonXP 1800+
                768MB
                WinXP Pro
I tryied both XMPEG 4.2 and XMPEG 4.5 and I had the same problem.
                Now I use DivX 5.02.
Strangely some times (actually 2 times) it worked.
Don't ask me how I have no idea how and why.
And for then I thought that I had solved the problem, I thought that my mistake was that the output res. was not multiple by 4.
                But actually was luck.
So, the last 2 weeks I try to use XMPEG 4.5 with DivX5.02 and I have the same problem "error blah, blah...."

I did the Windows XP Update but it didn't help.
