I made a little comparison page showing what I get with different bit rates in divx 4.11 using 1-pass encoding and 2 and 6 for the quantizers.
I also compare it with miniDV (the source) and mpeg-2 compression.
Note: the divx encodings all had the smart deinterlace filter applied in virtual dub...i suppose these results could be unfairly influenced by that filter...but without it, divx looks HORRIBLE because it doesn't support interlaced video properly like mpeg-2 does...
What i want to know,is mpeg-4 really so great? i mean i know it compresses amazingly..but the quality doesn't seem to be that good unless you significantly up the bitrate..which makes it seem pointless....if you can't use mpeg-4 at low bit rate, then why not just use mpeg-2?
