two pass encoding error generating file

Whenever I do a two pass enconding in DVX 5.02 Pro, on the second pass the program immediately reaches 100% and then gives the following error message:

An error occurred when trying to generate the file. Check that youre not using the output file or the program is setup correctly.

I have exited flask, rebooted the machine, deleted the output file and redirected flask to creat another output file, I still get the same message. All the setups appear to be correct.

I assume the error message refers to the output avi file, not the log or bin files, which I do have protected during both passes.

Obviously I am doing something very basic wrong, can anyone help me please.

make sure you have enough hard drive space left. i got this same kind of error, and turns out i was out of hard drive space.
