A few possibilities for what audio format is used in your DivX file:
      1. MP3 (You shouldn't have any difficulty in playing these files)
      2. WMA (Obtain codec directly from Microsoft via WMP, or install DivX 3.11)
      3. OGG (You need the Ogg Vorbis Directshow Filter)
      4. AC3 (Install the AC3 codec from a codec pack. Alternatively, install a DVD player software, such as WinDVD or PowerDVD)

To find out what audio codec is needed, open video file in Virtualdub and go to File -> File Information. Post what you see here.

That means that the sound is AC3. So install a AC3 codec and it'll work flawless, at least is should do that.
