VFAPI Converter in XP...HELP!

Apparently, the VFAPI Converter does not work in XP. Is there any way around this? Am I not able to convert my DVD rips to DiVX anymore? Is there an alternative to The VFAPI Converter? Please tell me there is.

If the VFAPI converter works in XP, then why can't I get it to work? I have installed, re-installed, looked for help on the topic and still can't find any solution. Do you know the answer???

I should also state that i am using the VFAPI to convert D2v files to fave AVI's to use in virtuabub.

Which version of DVD2AVI are you using ? You should only use version 1.76.
Which version of vfapi are you using ? I know version 1.04 Beta works.

I am using both of the versions you stated...dvd2avi 1.76 and VFAPI 1.04.

I just can't figure it out. i tried all of the trouble shooting solutions I can find on the net. DVD2AVI works fine. It makes a D2v files. VFAPI just can't read it. it gives me an error message that looks something like this........

??? C:\Monsters, Inc.\MI.d2v????

Try installing GordianKnot, and check that it can read the d2v file.

And check that the vfapi codec has been properly installed. Run regedit and check the key

HKeyLocalMachine\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers.desc\VFCodec.dll VFAPI Reader Codec v1.01

I installed Gknot. It would read the D2v file. It says it's not a valid DVD2AVI Project (1.76, YUV2)

And the VFAPI codec was installed properly. it is possible that I ripped it incorectly? I used CladDVD XP 1.3 Should I try using a different ripper?

Hey, For some reason, it is working now with the VFAPI converter. i think my problem was in DVD2AVI. When I would save the project orignally, it wasn't saving correctly. now it is. Go figure.

My new problem now is an Audio compression error in Virtualdub. I may not have lam installed correctly. how can i check that?

How do you process the audio in virtualdub ? what error message do you get ?

You can check which audio codecs are installed in 'Control Panel'->'Sounds and Audio devices'->Hardware->'Audio codecs'->properties->properties.

Strange, my lame codec is installed (lameACM.dll). the error message is...'error initializing audio compression'

And how do you get the audio into virtualdub ?, does any other audio codecs work for you ?.

None of the codecs work. I have been encoding the video and converting the wav in cool edit & music match to a mp3 then adding the wav headers back on to use it. then pasting them together in Vdub using direct stream. any idea why none of my codecs work?

If you create an mp3 outside virtualdub, why not just mux that into the avi file without reencoding it ?. Nandub does this very well.

true. i can do that but I still want to try top figure out what the problem is with the codecs in Vdub.
