Alternatives to mp3 audio in divx movies

I'm beginning to wonder if maybe using MP3 for the audio codec in divx movies is causing all the audio sync problems people seem to have with slower machines. I don't have audio sync problems on my Athlon 1.4 but I have tons of them on my P3 733....

I was wondering if anyone who had problems with divx audio syncing, tried converting the audio to PCM and seeing if they still have audio syncing errors?

I'm going to try it tonight and I'll post my results...

Ok i lied, I tried it just now

Its the MP3!!! that damned MP3 codec is screwing things up.

check this out....i had 45 minute clip from Krull (yea cool movie eh) anyway, i encoded it with lame acm inside virtual dub (from a pcm wav file i extracted with graph edit) with divx 4.11

The result is, bad audio sync on a P3 450 mhz at work. The audio never syncs up properly....

so I then converted a 10 minute clip to PCM audio (uncompressed)....and guess what, the audio syncs up perfectly!! no audio problems at all.

So I'm willing to wager its not divx but mp3 that's the problem.

    Does anyone have an alternative??????????????
    please????????
