Make a Smaller AVI File
I have a couple of avi-divx files larger than 700mb, so i can't burn them in a normal cd, anybody knows how can i make them smaller ??? so they can fit ???

Yes, depends how big they are to start though...
The easiest way is to use VirtuaDub to cut off the credits. That will usually save you about 30-40 MBs.
You can also use VirtualDub to reduce the audio encoding to a lower bitrate (assuming the audio is MP3). If the movie has been encoded at 320 Kb, you can re-encode at 128 or even 96 and save significant space. A standard 1h50 minute movie at 128 Kb tends to take about 80 MBs of space. Obviously, considerably more at higher bitrates. Reducing it below 96 is not recommended as you will lose audio quality.
You can overburn with most CD-burners using Nero, or a variety of other burning products which support overburning. Your hardware must support it as well, but if it is at least a 6X burner, it should. You can overburn to at most 725 MBs in my experience, but that is risky. I try never to go over 710 to ensure a good burn (remember, 710 MBs = 727,040 KB = 744488960 bytes). Windows Explorer presents it to you in KB.
If the movie is still too large, buy some blank 800 MB CDs.

Smaller AVI
I tried to do that, but im pretty sure it wasnt the right way...
i think ill have to do it like this ...
video = directstream copy ?
audio = change the compression ?
and just, save as .avi ..
if thats wrong, please let me know.

1. Open video in Virtual/nandub
2. Set Video and Audio tabs to Direct Stream Copy
3. Use the Mark In/Out buttons to specify where the start and ending of the new video, the end being the scene before the credits appear
4. Go to File -> Save as AVI and give a name to the new file
This may help bring down the filesize to 700MB or below. This won't help if the original video size is far larger than 800MB or so though, in which case you either have to burn it on 2 CDs or reencode the whole show at lower quality.Comment

Change Audio Compression for a Smaller Size
Im really happy with what Gordian Knot can do, a really 'all-in-one' program that gives u a good quality and an excelent size.
As i was saying before, how would it be to keep the video and change the audio compression just to make a smaller size file with Virtual Dub ?
change settings like this ?
video = direct stream copy
audio = change the compression
since the video doesnt have credits
i woulnt be able to cut it more...

I see. We have a change of plan here and here it goes:
1. Open video in Virtual/nandub
2. Set Video tab to Direct Stream Copy and Audio tab to Full Processing Mode
3. Under the Audio tab, go to Compression and select the MP3 codec and the desired (lower) bitrate. Make sure you have an MP3 codec, such as Radium, installed in your system.
4. Go to File -> Save as AVI and give a name to the new file

its 756mb = 774.144kb
i couldnt take the credits because it doesnt have it... and tryin' to make a overburn its too risky (as i read).
i can try with this one, and see what i get...

Is it 12 Monkeys by chance?
If it is, don't bother trying to re-encode the audio. You won't be able to reduce it enough. You will have to buy an 800 MB CD. Believe me, I tried! In the end, I got frustrated, and ordered the DVD for 10 euros from this site :
Of course, you have to live in France to get free shipping and be able to pay in Euros.

Now i can see you have a lot of experience encoding divx, IT IS 12 Monkeys and is a pain... im going to buy a couple of 800mb cds and let all this out...
sometimes i forget there's a world out there, and you can pay for dvd !!!
everything works fine with the last Gordian Knot version, really impressed...
