Audio Sync Problem (not covered before I think)

When I try to convert a dvd or divx using flask, divx 4.01 and mp3 encoding for audio, I get the audio out of sync. At the beggining of the movie the audio is ok, but after a couple of minutes the audio start desynching progrsivly, at the end of the movie its 4 or 5 sec behind the video. I have tryed several players and I dont think its a hardware problem, I have an Athlon 1.33, epox 8k7a+ with 256 DDR RAM. I got the same problem when enconding on a PIII 1.2.
The shift solution of the VirtualDub ovbiouly doesnt work cos if I shift it to the end it gets desynched at the beggining, I´d rather need a stretch option for audio like for the subtitles
I read that converting to divx 2 audio codec in VirtualDub solves some synching problem but I didnt found any divx 2 codec for audio in virtualdub.
I´ve read the guides for enconding with flask and doesnt say much about audio encoding, I´ve tryed several options and severl machines, still getting the same problem.
Can anybody please tellme why this happens, what am I doing wrong, and how can I solve it after the avi is made, or better, at encoding tme with flask.
Thanks in advance and merry christmas for everyone.

Have you changed the video frame rate or audio sample rate ?, always keep the same frame and sample rates as the input.

Another possibillity is that u are using a high post processing level with divx (that may cause sync problems for even the fastest computers) try using wmp 6.4, and turn down the post processing for the divx codec 'files->properties->advanced->divx codec'.

      *edit*
Oh I forgot, you can open wmp 6.4 even though you have installed wmp 7 or 8 by running mplayer2.exe.

wmp 6 didnd work..I turned the postprosesing to min , and still having the same problem.
Frist I tried lowering the audio sample rate, but then I tryed leaving it as the original and it was worst. In both cases i left the frame rate as the original.
By the way, how can I lower the frame rate or sample rate for making the avi smaller?

            OK
maybe your soundcard are haveing problems with 48khz playback, or maybe the divx audio codec is causing you problems use mpeg layer 3 audio codec.
Do you also get the same sync error if you jump to the end of the movie ?.

I am using the Radium mp3 codec ..I also tryed compressing an MPEG movie that was at 44.1 khz, I left it he same, and still got the same desync, so I dont think the frecuency is a problem.
And yes if I jump to the end of the movie I still have the same error.

I'd suggest that you initially create the .AVI file using PCM (Uncompressed) sound at 48Khz. If this file is properly synched:

Then load the file into VirtualDub, change the "Video" setting" to "Direct Stream Copying".

Change the "Audio" setting to "Full Processing" and click on "Conversion". Select 44,100. Click on "Compression". Select MP3 and whatever sample rate you prefer from within the 44,100 choices listed (96 to 320Kbps, if you've got the Radium codec installed).

Select "Save as AVI" from the "File" dropdown and provide a new name.

                Let us know of your success ;>}

Are u useing an old version of flask ?, the only version of flask that I can recommend is 0.6 with subtitles fix, or maybe Xmpeg but I don't have much experience with this.
If this don't work I think it's time u start looking at other encoding tools.
