    How to stop stuttering?

Hi, i am using XMPEG 4.2a and DivX 4.12. I used single pass quality-based, performance/quality slow and cpu usage at 100%. I ripped an Anime DVD using the MCMAB 3dNOW IDCT, i had reconstruct progressive images ticked (dunno what this does) and i ripped from 720x480 to 640x480 with cropping of black borders. I used the Bressenham filter.

When ripping i got average of 15FPS, 12min 16max, this was with ripping sound at the same time.

I have an athlon 1ghz o/c to 1.4ghz with 384mb SDRAM. The temp was a constant 39 deg C, so the CPU wasnt overheating.

The movie size came out at 1.47g - bigger than i would have liked. On watching the movie, there was no pixelation or blocking, but every few seconds the movie would jerk/stutter, like frames had been missed out. I had frame skipping set to 0, even though apparently its only even an option if 2-pass encoding is used.

Im a relative newbie, so have probably done something wrong. Can anyone give me some pointers so I dont mess around with the settings and wait another 3hrs 30mins and get the same result? Thanks a lot.

If I were you I wouldn't put the CPU usage at 100%. Every now & again a system process is going to come along with a Real-time priority and if the encoding is demanding 100% usage it may not like it. Try dropping the level to like 96 or something.

Probably won't make any difference, but it may.

        WHAT A BLOODY IDIOT!!!

I was ripping audio with the DivX codec instead of MP3, DOH!!

When i use the mp3 codec to do the audio its smooth as a babies backside, as soon as I use DivX to encode the audio its stuttery.

        Problem solved
