    Flaskmpeg is too slow

    I used to make me divx movies using mpeg2avi.
    In my computer (P3 800,512 ram.20gb HD) it took about 4.30 hours to compress a 100 min movie.
    The last months I am using Flaskmpeg 0.6.
    It is too slow. It takes 6-7 hours to compress the video (without the sound).
    Now that I am using the new codec I need this 2 hours because the new codec takes the double time to finish the avi (I am using the 2-pass option).
    Can anybody explain why it takes so long to compress with flaskmpeg;
    Is there a better version of it (a faster one);
    Can I use mpeg2avi with the new codec (divx 4.12);
    Is the DvD2Avi a good solution;

    You should try XMPEG 4.2. It is an enhanced version of Flask Mpeg .6 with new features written by the same group that released Flask Mpeg .6. I believe it has been optimized with SSE2 on P3/4 CPu's to be about 40% faster.

    You can read about it's speed and new features at www.tomshardware.com

      I would have to vouch for XMPEG. I have a slow computer but the 2 step encoding process using XMPEG takes the same time as a 1 step encoding using FlaskMPEG. Crazy.

        I tied to compress with Xmpeg 4.02
        It is really fast.
        It takes half the time flaskmpeg do.
        In 7 hours I compressed an 1.30 hour movie (with audio) both the 2 passes with my P3-800Mhz!!!!!!
        The only problem is that I don't understand some options.
        But I'll post another thread for that.
        Thanks guys I fell like I bought a new P4.

          Does it have all the functionality of Flask though? There's no point using a faster encoder if you then have to spend as much time as you saved doing the cropping, resizing, adding subtitles, etc...

            I used it with my last 4-5 divx movies.
            As far as I can say it is much easier than flaskmpeg (especially with the autocrop option)
            And IT IS REALLY FASTER.

              Heh yeah I've just been having a read through the article at TWG & it seems too good to be true. Guess I'll be giving that a go with my next rip.
