    Widescreen 16:9

When I play a 16:9 DVD on my computer using WinDVD or on a regular DVD player at a friends house the picturs looks fine. Almost full screen but not quite, just 16:9 1.7777 times wider.

I Make the DivX 5.02 with Gordian Knot using the auto crop. The DivX plays fine in WInDVD and PowerDivX but it's anamorphic 2.35:1. But the picture looks amazing. If I use PowerDivX and set it to 16:9 the picture looks stretched.

How come? THis tells me that the original DVD when played in the DVD played is enlarged to fill 16:9 and the sides are cut. When I make the DivX I get the full anamorphic 2.35:1 with hudge black bars top and bottom. Am I right and if not corret me?

Is it possible to playback the 2.35:1 DivX in 16:9 without stretching but by cutting the sides?

    Partial answer

I know DVD comes with anamorphic pre stretched to 2.35:1. Then the widescreen TV only has to stretch it vertically. I am viewing the anamoephic version.

I used PowerDivX and set it to 16:9 and it looks good so wha tI said above was my mistake. Only problem is PowerDivX doesn't give me multichannel output. WinDVD gives my 4 channel output but cannot convert to 16:9.

Guess I have to deal with the evr popular PowerDivX audio issue.

"WinDVD gives my 4 channel output but cannot convert to 16:9."

Have you tried unlocking the ratio ans simply dragging a corner to the desired appearance?
