    2 AVI's to 1

    Hey, I was wondering if you guys knew how to combine 2 AVIs that were split up back into 1 divx avi? I was thinking virtual Dub might be able to do it but not quite sure how. Reason why I am asking is because I am trying to make a backup of Pearl Harbor but the movie is so big so I have to backup each CD as an AVI and now I want to splice them together so I can split them at 700mb each. Any advice or help is greatly appreciated! Happy New years!

    Your speculation that VirtualDub is the appropriate tool is correct. Assuming that the two .AVIs have IDENTICAL framerates (to the 4th decimal), simply:

    1) Load the first one into VDub then,

    2) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "Append .AVI" and select the second .AVI.

    3) Under the "Video" dropdown menu, select "Direct Stream Processing" ("Audio" should be set to this by default, but check it, just to be certain).

    4) Save your joined files with a new name.

    Note: If VDub generates an error when you try to append the second file, regarding the files being of differing frame rates (possibly varying by as little as .0001, believe it or not), with the "Video" still set to "Direct Stream Processing", select "Framerate" (under "Video") and change the rate to EXACTLY that of the second file. Save the modified first file with a new name. EXIT VDub. Start VDub once again and follow steps 1-4 above.

    Let us know of your success ;>}

    P.S. You MAY discover that (since you apparently did not, as you said, actually split one .AVI into two - rather you initially created two separate .AVIs) the audio goes slightly (perhaps 600 milleseconds) out of synch after the point of merger. If this is the case, you'll have to adjust the audio skew(under "Audio"/"Interleaving") of the original second .AVI and go through the joining exercise again.
