    Sync Error

I am using VirtualDub to convert a .mpg file to an .avi file. When I first tried it, It gave me a "Sync Error" message. It keeps giving me this whatever I try, even when I just try to save the .wav file. What does this mean? I'm not really a newb, but I've never encountered this before.

Try using TMPGEnc instead of VDub. If it too has a problem with your file, perhaps its error message may be more enlightening.

When I try to use TMPGEnc, it says that the .mpg is not a valid audio source- I can't even select it to try and encode it. So I tried to get the .wav with Virtual Dub and use that as an audio source, but it still gave me a "Sync Error"

        1) Did you create the .MPG file? If so, you should know what type of audio is used.

        2) have you successfuly played the .MPG file under Windows Media Player? If so, while it's running, bring up it's "Properties" (either from the dropdown menus or by right-clickinging in the window). Click on "Advanced". Double-click on each of the audio related items ("Direct Sound", "MPEG Audio Decoder", etc.) listed and see if you can determine what audio codec was used.

By the way, do you know whether it's MPEG-1 or MPEG-2?
