hi i have been ripping about 20 movies sofar with my amd t-bird 900mhz. and it takes about 6-10 hours depending on if use inverse telecine etc. i was thinking to buy a new processor, like amd xp 2100, thats about 1,7ghz. how will this improve the time it takes for me to rip a divx? how many hours do you guys think it would take for me to rip a movie? would really apreciate replys before i buy this processor. thnx in advance

Yes of course you will get a nice speed boost by upgrading to a faster PC. Divx encoding doesn't quite scale with clock speed but it's not that far off. I really hate stating specific numbers, because it'll depend on quite a lot of factors other than just raw clock speed.Donate your idle CPU time for something usefull.

I have an AMD XP 1600+
For 1 pass 2 hours 56 min
For 2 pass 5 hours 35 min
The movie then has a lengt of 79 minutes and I use al the professional setings from the Divx 5.0.2 Codec and I also do cropping an resizing. Without any audio on it yet!
I also have an AMD XP 2200+
For 1 pass 1 hours 48 min
For 2 pass 3 hours 24 min
