I wanna rip subtitle...but how??

I really need to know how to rip subtitles from dvd.. but I want them to use separately.. I dont want them on my movie all the time.. I could take it off whenever I want.. but here is the problem...

I dont know how to do it!!! which tool u guys suggest most?? which is the best?? and how do we use this tool? (I mean if u have a guest link or so, it is more than enough.. dont need to tell here)

and one more question about subtitles.. is there a chance to change the frames of subtitles?? for example can we change the frame of the subtitle from 23,976 to 25 ??? is that possible??

These questions may come so silly to you, I am really sorry.. but I am a beginner about ripping movies.. I just ripped 2.. what I also wonder; they both had 25 frames.. was that just consequence, or can we choose the frame when we are encoding too?? cause most movies I see on net has 23,976, but my both has 25.. thats why I wondered..

If you help me, I would really be thankful..

Vobsub will allow you to extract the subtitles to SUB and IDX files. From there, you can use Direct Vobsub to load up the subtitles into the movie file you are playing.

I cant open it.. It seems in GKnot, but I cant use it.. should I download it or there is a way to open it under GKnot??

and is there any guide which tells me how to do it??

You need to install Vobsub before you can use GK to rip the subtitles. When you have installedVobsub, set the program to open the IFO file respective to the set of VOBs that you are ripping (eg. VTS_01_0.IFO)

There should be guides on how to use Vobsub, but I assure you the program is pretty easy to learn and use. A few tries are all you need to master it.

Simply install Vobsub like you would any other programs under Windows. There is no need to install it in GK's folder. GK will still have access to Vobsub whereever you install it.

And no question is ever too much unless it gets repetitive. You've done nothing wrong.

About changing the framerate of the subtitles, it is possible, though I can't recall the names of the programs used for that purpose anymore (I disposed of them long ago). You may want to check out the articles on subtitles from this site. One of them will contain what you are looking for.

enchanter, here is another question for you.. (hope i am not annoying)..

I am trying to encode Erin Brockovich right now.. I am Turkish and I live in Austria.. So the DVD I have now doesnt have Turkish subtitles.. I checked the websites I know about downloading subtitles, and they have Turkish subtitle of this movie, but for 1 cd.. as I learned from khp here, that movies which are more than 2 hours, better be made for 2 cds.. so I wanna make it 2 cd to have it great quality... but here is the problem.. if I make it 2 cds, then I wont have the turkish subtitles of this movie.. the question is;
by using the subtitle programs, can one be able to take a subtitle which is for 1 cd and make this subtitle for 2 cds??? is it possible to divide the file into 2 pieces??

I hope u understand what I meant.. sorry about my english.. I know its not that good, but thats all I can do.. hope u got what I wanted to ask..

It shouldn't matter how many CDs the subtitle script is meant for, since we are only concerned with the play length of it. If need be, you can use GordianKnot/ Vobsub to split the subtitles so that each part can be used for each CD.

If you want to rip them yourself from dvd you should try subrip to very good programm and vobsub can play them to!

IMHO it is much much better to use vobsub for ripping the subs, the quality is so much better than those ugly text based subs.

i succeed with subrip.. it looked much easier to use for me.. vobsub is kinda confusing.. at least for me it was.. but i am sure if i knew what to do there, it would look better to me too.. i dont even know which tool i will open under vobsub.. there are lots of different programs there... thats why subrip looked simplier...

Ripping with vobsub is way easier and faster than SubRip because you don't have to help it with OCR.

khp there is one thing I didnt understand in this guide.. can you help me by explaining in other words what this mean;

"Step 2: Rip the subtitles

Start a command prompt (start - run - command/cmd), change to the directory where you have vobsub.dll and type "rundll32 vobsub.dll,Configure""

My windows is in german here.. and I got nothing about this explanation.. I wanna use this subtitle program.. cause this OCR staff really started to bother me in subrip.. and you never take me to wrong thing.. so I trust your opinions a lot..
