I hope I am writing in the right forum. I am currently trying to convert some old VHS tapes to DVD. Here are the steps I am taking.
1) I capture the video with ArcSoft Showbiz, a program that came with my Sony DVD writer. The video is being captured at 640x480 for 20 minutes and is around 20 Gig AVI.
2) From there I use TMPGEnc to convert it to an MPG 1 352x240 and an MPG 2 352x240 file. The file encoded in MPG 2 is over 1.2 gigs big and the file encoded in MPG 1 is only 185 megs big. The quality appears to be roughly the same.
Why is the MPG2 file larger than the MPG1 file? I thought MPG2 had a higher compression rate than MPG1. Am I doing something wrong or am I using the wrong program?
