    Xvid Conversion - Help!!!

I have a little problem, I converted the Ring from Xvid on to VCD using just nero, it took me 3 hours, when I put the vcd in my dvd player it played and the sound and the picture was fantastic, except for one thing for picture was now upside down, does anyone have any idea how I can get around this, or why nero decided to burn my film upside down.

    Thanks

Several users have already reported the same problem.

Instead of using Nero to burn AND convert the file, use TMPGenc to convert the file into a vcd (guide can be found here) and then just use Nero to burn the file.

That means the audiostream is in .AC3 format. But anyway why are you using VDub? Simply open TMPGenc and select your movie in there.

You can use VDub to save the audiostream as a seperate .wav file (is that what you're trying to do?).

To understand why the poster is using VirtualDub, check the article to which YOU'VE provided the link...

                  converting xvid

Ok all I want to do is convert an xvid file to mpeg so I can burn it to CD, I did a little bit of encoding and then tested but the mpeg had no sound, so I thought I would try to extract the sound file first from Virtual Dub, but that doesnt work for me either as it throughs up errors, so how do I do it. Please please please help.

If, in fact, the audiostream is in .AC3 format:In TMPGEnc, under the "Environmental Settings" "VFAPI plugin" tab rightclick on the "Direct Show Multimedia Reader" and increase to the highest priority. This will enable TMPGEnc to accept a properly encoded .AVI with .AC3 audio for input...

                    THEN

                    To create a VCD:

                    1) Load .AVI file into TMPGEnc
                    2) Set to "System Video and Audio" (lower right side)
                    3) Click on "Setting" radio button
                    4) Click on "System" tab, change mode to "MPEG1-VideoCD" (from default of "MPEG1")
                    5) Click on "Advanced" tab, change "Video arrange method" to "Center (Custom Size"), change dimensions to 352x288 or 352x240
                    6) Change "Source aspect ratio" to either "4:3 525 line (NTSC 704x480)", "4:3 525 line (NTSC)", or "16:9 525 line (NTSC)" - If you're in the PAL world choose either of the two similar PAL settings instead
                    7) Under the "Video" tab, change the dimensions to 352x288 or 352x240 (Note: "Video" tab mode of "MPEG1" is okay) - set "Motion Search Precision" to "Normal Quality". Change the "Aspect Ratio" to match, as closely as possible, the "Source Aspect Ratio" you set under the "Advanced" tab.
                    8) Change "Rate Control Mode" to "Automatic VBR (CQ_VBR)"
                    9) Under the "Audio" tab, set to 44,100 224Kbps
                    10) Press "Start"

(Or, instead of the steps 1)-10) above, you could attempt to use TMPGEnc's VCD "wizard"/template)

Note that if your video runs longer than 70-80 minutes, you'll have to subsequently split your VCD-MPG file in two. This too can be easily and precisely accomplished using TMPGEnc. Under the "Files" dropdown menu, click on "MPEG Tools" and select the "Merge & Cut" tab. Once again, make sure to change the mode to "MPEG1-Video CD". Load your file and enter a new (.MPG) name in the "Output file" box. Then doubleclick on the ORIGINAL file's name in the window, which will bring you to the cutting area. Select your desired start and end points for the first half, click on "Okay" which will bring you back to the first window and generate (in a sequence of three automated steps) the first new file. To create the second new file, repeat the steps starting with "Then doubleclick on the ORIGINAL..." (be extra patient with the second half, as the program has to do more seeking to establish the beginning of the new file).

Use a burning program, such as NERO to burn your CD-R or R/W CD as a VCD (DON'T ask NERO to format the file as a VCD, since you've already accomplished this!)

                    Let us know of your success ;>}

                      still no sound

Ive encoded the video again, this time it took nearly 4 hours and still the video has no sound, if I look at the file through virtualdub it says on the file information:

                      sample rate 48000
                      sample precision 0-bit
                      compression unknown [tag 2000]

so is this file not with ac3 sound, i dont understand it, virtual dub wont let me extract the sound so do I need a different codec, I have the Tsunami filter pack. Can anyone help.

                        "compression unknown [tag 2000]"

This IS a reference to .AC3 audio.

Have you done, the following, that I previously mentioned?:
In TMPGEnc, under the "Environmental Settings" "VFAPI plugin" tab rightclick on the "Direct Show Multimedia Reader" and increase to the highest priority. This will enable TMPGEnc to accept a properly encoded .AVI with .AC3 audio for input...

Have you installed an .AC3 audio codec/filter?
