virtualdub error

when i try to playback the file in virtualdub i get this error message. what should i do?

1) The audiostream is indicated to be (hard as this may be to believe) an MPEG1 audiostream

2) What are you trying to accomplish with this file?

i need to cut out a small part from middle of the video so i could send it to someone but i have to hear the sound so i would know where (the sound is what it's about)

Play the file in Windows Media Player and carefully note that start and end time of the section you want to save.

Then:

1)Load your original (DivX-compressed or otherwise) .AVI into VirtualDub or NanDub
2) Set BOTH "Video" and "Audio" to "Direct Stream Copying"
3) From the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "Go to" and enter the beginning time
4) From the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "Go to next keyframe"
5) From the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "Set Selection Start"
6) From the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "Go to" and enter the ending time
7) From the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "Go to next keyframe"
8) From the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "Set Selection End"
9) Save with a new filename
