VHS 2 DivX/Xvid TUTORIAL NEED

I'm newb here and I wrote the admin's note but I didn't see anithing about - VHS TO DivX/Xvid -
I need to save some rare vhs documents but I don-t know how.
I don't know witch program I need to use and more important how.
My config:
AMD Athlon XP 2000+ / 512DDR / Marvel G450
