mini dv (not dvd) to divx

I have 2 computers one is for making videos on and the other is for doing uni work on. I make my own films and I would like to be able to edit my own footage on my other computer and then make a divx of it so I can distibute it on cd insted of video tape is there a method on hoe to do this any where?...
my video computer has a pinical dv 300card
    prem 5.1
I have put the divx 4.12 codec on it and I go to
    File>export>movie from the time line
I then go to the settings box and select the divex 4.12 codec. the computer then makes up a a divx file but it is very jerky
when I re did it I wen into settings again and it will not let me alter any thing I can chose divex 4.12 or numras other codecs but I carnt control it...
dose any one have experance of this or do any one have any links to articals on this subject?.......

Hi there. I had done this once, recording racist incidents and DIVX has saved my life. The judge was very impressed with the quality and the way I did it.

When capturing from DV to PC, capture it in NO RECOMPRESSION, 320*240, quality audio and YU12.

    *remember the 4GB limit.

When captured, use TMPGENC to convert it to MPEG2. Choose high quality and 10 bits for the DC. frame rate should be 25 and do it to PAL or NTSC (I live in the UK to) Then when it encodes, play it back, the quality is still not good yet so open the encoded MPEG2 file that you have just done, in TMPGENC. Set it to very high quality and select the basic colour correction and increase the brightness and contrast to 5-7. Then encode. The quality should be good/better.

use Vidomi to convert to DIVX. Use these settings:

    DIVX 3.11alpha fast motion
    6000 bitrate
    75 crisp
    any keyframe u want
    MP3 audio 128@44.1KHz

Then open in VirtualDub (the DIVX file) and change anything you want.

    All should be well.

This is (kinda) how a borke the world record on compression and quality.

    Thanks

    Techno

        thanks both for replying
        techno,
Im going to try your method but it seems very restrcive...
it would envole me having to make a dv master of what Id just edited and then recapture it. I was hoping that there would be a way of me doing it without having to export it to tape and then re captuer.......
Ill give your method a go thow

        stefke..
thanks for putting the link Ill check it out and post back hear
        thanks
