Why does VirtualDub default to 500ms of audio interleaving?

Quick question.

Why does VirtualDub default to a audio interleave of 500ms? It makes my videos 500ms out of sync? What is the author's reasoning for this?

I just wonder why the default isn't OFF.

Please let me know.

try loading that file into nandub. The audio stream may be vbr, and virtualdub doesn't handle vbr audio streams like nandub.

It DOESN'T - the defaults are PRELOAD 500ms and Interleave every 1 frame. The preload should not cause the asynchronous situation you describe...


(By the way, chickeneater's suggestions are not in any way pertinent to what you've posted - and NanDub has the identical defaults...)

setarip: It does, though. It's out of sync, by...oh...I don't know...a half a second

I did two encodes of Default's Wasting My Time video off their DVD packaged with their recent CD.

One encode was w/ the default interleave and the second was with it turned off.

You can view both if you wish to see...they're not off by much, but I think the "interleave-off" version is more accurate.

I'll have a few friends watch them and let their unaided eyes be the judge.

Exactly what software and step-by-step procedures did you use for ripping and encoding?

1) Smartripper 2.41

2) dvd2avi 1.76

3) VFAPIConvert 1.05

4) CDex 1.50 beta 10

5) VirtualDub 1.5.1

Used the XViD codec on a 2-pass setup on an Athlon 1.11GHz w/ 768MB RAM on Win XP Pro.

Perhaps you should try a different audio-related program...

Wouldn't know why I'd have to. It's working more than fine for me as is.
