HDTV encoding - possible? any playback issues?

    I was wondering about this.

also, how's the quality when encoding 1cd movies with xvid? especially in comparison to divx 3/4 encoding?

    thanks.

The answer to this kind of question will clearly be subjective. Bear that in mind.

That said, I personally find XviD to be on par or better than DivX 5.x for pretty much any type of movies. DivX 4.x is no good and will always be in my eyes. For anime, the only codecs I would consider using are DivX 3 and XviD.

Divx 3 is better on animation than 4 or 5? How much better, in your opinion? And are the file sizes any different between the different formats?

Sharper (much) and hardly any mosquito noise (unless you use ridiculously low bitrates). DivX 5 can turn out better for videos with heavy noise, since it can tolerate noise better than DivX3.

I always go for exact targeted filesize, so this is irrelevant for my applications.
