putting a divx movie on a cd

okay setarip, I did all that in the instructions that you sent me. When I did it, the final size for the avi DivX file was 770 megabytes with the audio. Is there any way to get it compressed?

For the record I'm trying to do a conversion of a dvd movie to a DivX movie. I would like my movie to be 720X480 as the resolution without cropping the video and I would like to fit it all on 1 regular cd-r.

Rip a DVD with some of rippers
Use the DivX calculator to get the correct bitrate
use the virtual dub to load the movie
in video compression under video tab select DivX and click setup
in DivX 5.0X setup enter the bitrate calculated
click on save avi under file tab
and do this twice, first under setup od DivX select 1st pass,
than, after he saves the file, save it again, only this time select nth pass
this will help, because it never gets the file size correct the first time, it requires 2 pass to get it right. And, the picture quality is better.
or, download gordian knot, it contains all the software for ripping a DVD.
oh, and, yes, use the audio compression too

...this MIGHT not be the best picture that I have...
