need help with virtualdub error

i keep trying to save a wav file when processing a movie and i keep getting the same error:

virtualdub error

acm reported error on decompress (200)

can anyone offer any help

after opening the avi file, do a 'scan video stream for errors', this might mask corrupted frames

Your file probably includes an AC3 audiostream, which the "true" VirtualDub cannot process.


1) Load the .AVI file into VDUB1.4C-AC3

2) Set "Video" to "Direct Stream Copying"


3) Set "Audio" to "Full Processing Mode"

4) From the "Audio" dropdown menu, select "Conversion" - set to 44,100

5) From the "Audio" dropdown menu, select "Compression" - and choose the MPEG Layer 3 (.MP3) 44,100Hz sampling rate that you prefer

6) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "Save as AVI" - and save with a new filename

I too have had this problem. I have had limited success with extracting audio using vdub 148_AC3 save as .ac3 file. Then convert .ac3 file to .wav file with ac3dec.exe (with its GUI). Then run the new .wav file along with original .avi file through TMPGE to get .mpg file. This however is not working all of the time. I have been searching for an answer to this problem and have yet to find the answer.

If anyone knows of another way please let me know.

When I try setarip's method I get an error in vdub saying the the output stream doesn't jive with the input stream or something to that effect. I don't know .........

it sure is frustrating.
