DVD rip --> Encode--> Distorted Audio

I've ripped many DVDs without problems, I've come to do one today and the audio comes out very high and distorted. The audio sounds fine when actually viewing the DVD so why should it distort when I rip it?

I've tried fixing the audio in Sound Forge but the distortion is still noticeable on certain parts.

    any ideas?

I used SmartRipper, Flash MPEG 0.6, DivX 5.03, Radium mp3 codec.

SmartRipper? try using dvdDecrypter it's better and actually creates and EXACT image of the dv to your HDD. Then try encoding it. If you still have a problem with the sound try using a different program for encoding. GordianKnot is a great program ( i have never had a problem with it). You can find it at http://doom9.org along with detailed instructions on how to use it
