    quiet!!!!! ahhh!!!!!

this is such BS!!! i have tried 10 times at least to get this to work. first of all, im using Simple Divx 1.2 to encode a ripped fast and the furious main movie (VTS_08's 1,2,3,4,5) for some stupid reason the a-holes decided to use 2.35-1 widescreen, so after using dvd decrypter, whether in file mode or normal, it appears pushed in from the sides and pulled out at the top, cuz its uses 16:9. though after divx conversion since i can tell Simple Divx to do 2.35-1 its corrected. but the sound is also very quiet after ripping. here's my system specs:

    abit nf7s
    amd xp 1700 t bred b overclocked to 2000mhz
    radeon 9500 non pro
    using nvidia soundstorm integrated sound
    corsair xms 3200 256 mb
    win xp home
western digital 200 BB HDD, wd 6.4 GB HDD, both on primary IDE
cendyne DSR-1600H DVD ROM, lite on LTR-48125W, both on secondary IDE

maye some of thats important????? i dunno

i follow the guide that comes with SD, yet it still ends up very quiet. thats pretty much my only problem. the other is that the file size is unpredictable, probably because it uses variable bitrate, cuz i tell it to do a 2-pass.

this is all really annoying me, and my mom becuase my system uses a fair amt of power and is loud and heats the room up cuz its overclocked and uses a peltier device CPU watercooling system. (dont ask please) and my comp is on hours at a time becuase this stupid encoding takes forever, and then it doesnt work!

furthermore, youre probably not familiar with divx and are going to tell me to use some stupid thing like DVX or gordain knot. i HATE those! do you know how long the guide is and how big the prog is? i like simple divx cuz its easy and quick to setup, but it doesnt work! although im thinking something screwed up in the rip process.

im sorry for the long post, someone PLZ help me this is so frustrating.

    thx

"so after using dvd decrypter, whether in file mode or normal, it appears pushed in from the sides and pulled out at the top, cuz its uses 16:9."

Since DVDDecrypter does NOTHING to alter the format of the video, it must be the software you're using to display the .VOBs that's distorting the image.

"i like simple divx cuz its easy and quick to setup, but it doesnt work!"

And I can sell you a 10 carat diamond for $1.00US - but I don't have any diamonds ;>} What good is it, if it doesn't work?

Try loading the .VOBs, in sequential order, into EASY_TO_USE MPEGMediator...

i use the ati file player that came with my vidcard. it happens to play VOBs. so what about the noise, though? could that be ati f.p. also? is there a good player that can do VOBs or a plugin to windows media player or something?

        ok thanks for the info

but now what about the quiet? when playing the file i have to turn my stereo (which my comps hooked up to) almost all the way up to even hear it. whereas when i play the dvd it is correct volume. also, i forgot to mention that after conversion to divx the audio started about a second after the video part it corresponded to started playing.

Why don't we try to resolve your PRIMARY problem first? Have you as yet done the following?:

Try loading the .VOBs, in sequential order, into EASY_TO_USE MPEGMediator...

Once you've tried MPEGMediator, please post your results here...

well i reinstalled winXP today (different unrelated issue) and this time DVD Decrypter converted in file mode, and made it squashed, BUT the sound was good. so i started MPEG mediator and fortunately it displays the frames, so i could see if it was good. i set it on 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio, and it was fine! so now ive just got to work with the "plugin configure" under output until i get the right quality/filesize? it uses the DIVX 5 settings (like when you get to the divx5 settings from the start menu, and u go to Decoder Settings)

UPDATE: i was unhappy with what happened with MPEG Mediator under lower quality, and even still the file was large (i only encoded the first 3 mins or so, took the file size, multiplied it by how many times 3 goes into the movie length) so i went back to Simple Divx, it was fine, except for the movie played too fast when on 29.97 fps like the VOBs are. when i did 23.976, it was fine.

that's weird.....in simple divx at the first screen where you select the VOBs it has an info box at the bottom and says they are 29.97

Did you "bother" to change the audio format from Uncompressed PCM (.WAV) format to a compressed format, such as .MP3 (MPEG Layer 3)?

you need to install a MP3 codec such as Radium

ok ill do that but i should note that even when using the 56 k MP3 setting, the file is only a few MB's less than it is with PCM. or is that just because its a small file? maybe i ought to let it encode the whole thing and see.

use the original and best..DIVX 3.11alpha n my opinion.

it is better, and lower file size, better quality then v4 and 5 imo

look on my site for information

well i finally got around to converting it today with MPEGMediator. though it took a total of like 3 1/2 ---4 hours i think, cuz i had to do both passes (did the option "original 2-pass" 1st and 2nd pass, in the divx 505 pro config screen) and both passes took 1 1/2 -- 2 hrs. the resulting file was 716 mb (733 "on disk" --what does that mean?) and with finalizing the cd, i fit it on a 700 mb cd. the quality is good, chose 128 kbs sound, i belive the video slider was set on 780. not quite as good as id like it, but alot better than many movies ive gotten off kaza. i find it interestin that the rule of thumb, at least i think thats what ive heard : "you can fit a dvd quality 2hr movie on a cd". i find it hard to believe. maybe the people whove encoded movies i have downloaded and myslef included have not doen something right?

i guess this is what i want to work at now, better quality.

but so far, im happy i got this to work. thanks for the help
