    This just sounds fishy...

    I just purchased a TV Wonder PCI card (ATI) for my second system, because I liked the results I got with my All-in-Wonder PRO card in my other machine. I find that with the packaged software, I cannot capture above 640x240. Who wants that resolution? I checked their website, and this is what I found:

    ATI TV WONDER - Video capture resolution is limited to a maximum of 640x240

    When using the ATI TV WONDER and TV WONDER VE with Multimedia Center 7.1 the maximum resolution supported for video capture is 640 x 240. Higher resolutions such as 640 x 480 and 720 x 480 are not available.

    This limitation in capture resolution for the TV WONDER and TV WONDER VE when using ATI Multimedia Center 7.1 is by design. Future software releases may add support for video capture at higher resolutions.

    What is up with that? I have MMC7.1 with my AIW PRO and it captures up to 640x480. Why can't this NEWER card do so?

    This sounds like the card is capable of capturing at higher resolutions, but the software prevents it. I can't even get VirtualDub to capture higher. VD worked with my oter ATI card...

    There is now an update to MMC 7.9, but you have to get Microsoft® DirectX® 9.0 and Windows Media Encoder 9.0 first. Something just smells...

      Well my advice is get DirectX 9 and Windows Media Encoder 9 and give it a try. Heck what could ya lose?

          What problems are you experiencing with Virtualdub?

          IUVCR, AVI_IO, or VirtualVCR (Freeware) are software you may want to try.

              It turns out that the DRIVER ATI packs with the card is the problem. I couldn't use any of those apps to get the resolution higher than 240 lines. What I did find was this:

              This guy totally rewrote the drivers for the chipset on this capture card, which is common in several others. Along with the many improvements, he also made the driver capable of capturing at standard higher resolutions. Now all the different apps work (with the exception of the stupid packaged ATI MMC ).
