    1st DivX5.1 TEST!

I did some tests with DivX 5.1 converting a vob file (DVX/Lanczos resize/no filters + VirtualDubMod1.5.4.1), these are the results:

1)Speed (I have a pIII 700, so, if this codec is optimised for PIV, ignore this section)
comparing it to DivX5.05 in "slowest mode" and using 5.1 with NO options enabled (neither bframes):
    1st pass
in "slowest mode" (performance/quality ratio) the speed decrease is 90-80%
in "slow mode" the speed is double (than "slower", so 80-60%less...don't be too optimistic)
    in "standard mode": 20-30% less
    nth pass (using mvinfo file!)
slowest/slow/standard: the speed is the same of 5.05

    #2
2)Quality (I disabled all the options like psychov. and postproc. filter, 2passes as always)
    Standard mode:
The motion search has improved a lot: using low bitrate values (720*288 25fps 860kbps...so: BPF=0.17) there are no noticeable macroblocks (they are more in low motion scenes, but they're small...the effect is really strange), but the noise is almost everywhere
Using hi-medium bitrate (same resolution, 1265kbps, BPF=0.25) macrob. totally vanish, but there's already some noise.
    slowest mode:
The noise is drastically reduced: converting ANIME videos the results are better than divX5.05 and Xvid!
Anyway pictures are really sharp, the classic "smoothing" effect of DivX5.0-5.03 is disappeared

    Conclusions:
the standard mode sux (too much noise!), but if u use post processing filters and u like smooth video this is not a problem
slowest mode is really precise and could be the best way to encode anime movies, but it's too slow
