1. What is Dr. DivX?

Dr. DivX was designed to enable anyone, from the most grizzled encoding veteran to the
freshest-faced video newbie, to create great-looking DivX video without breaking a sweat
or furrowing a brow. Thanks to Dr. DivX, what was once a complicated and time-consuming
process for compressing and creating high quality video can now be completed with a few
simple steps that take only a matter of seconds.
2. What you’ll need to get started:
Minimum Requirements:
PII 450Mhz or better

DirectX 8 or better
64mb RAM
20MB free space for application*
AC3 Direct show decoder if you are encoding MPEG2 VOB files with AC3 audio track
Recommended Requirements:
PIV 1Ghz or better (PIV 1.5Ghz or better for live capture and DV)
Windows XP
DirectX 9.0a
512 RAM
20MB free space for application*
AC3 Direct show decoder if you are encoding MPEG2 VOB files with AC3 audio track
*Dr. DivX will require more hard drive space for Live Capture and DV input
3. Installing Dr. DivX:
Download and run the Dr.DivX.exe install file and follow the instructions to install
Dr. DivX. You must install the DivX codec along with Dr. DivX for Dr. DivX to run
properly. Reboot if needed.
4. Registering Dr. DivX:
This version has a 15 day trial. After this trial is over you must purchase Dr. DivX
and register it with your name, email and serial number to continue to use Dr. DivX.
5. AC3 decoders tested (in order from most reliable to least stable)
* AC3 filter http://ac3filter.sourceforge.net/
o This filter was found to work the best
o Volume levels are low, but can be adjusted in the AC3 configuration utility
* Cyberlink AC3 decoder
* Moonlight AC3 decoder
* Intervideo AC3 decoder
o This filter caused Dr. DivX to hang on certain input files
o During Batch encode, some audio tracks could be lost
* Sonic (Ravisent) AC3 decoder
o This filter caused Dr. DivX to hang on certain input files

7. Known Issues
Re-encoding DivX 3.11 files that have bad or empty frames may cause synch issues in the
output video
During the trial period there may be a short pause before encoding. This won’t affect
file encodes, but may affect live capture or DV input. When the product is registered,
this delay will not occur.
Windows 98 cannot use live capture feature
Dr. DivX may crash if no AC3 decoder is present when encoding input files that contain
AC3 audio
Mark in and out may not be accurate on MPEG2 files that have breaks in their PTS
structure
Single pass on some MPEG2 files may produce file sizes different then requested
Inclusion of some VirtualDub filter may cause Dr. DivX to crash
Encoding Live-capture content with DV Cam may not be accurate (mark-in/mark-out time)
Frame decimation may not work incase of Live-capture content encoding.
Dr. DivX occasionally fails to encode a clip with a separate Audio input (MP3)
Live Capture Encoding with some live capture cards may freeze Dr. DivX on first encode.
Dr. DivX may stop responding at the beginning of a second pass encoding of a large input
file Encoding to multiple file segments may produce inaccurate file sizes in some cases

I'm sure you're well-intentioned, but:
VirtualDub, VirtualDubMOD, and Virtual VCR are all freeware.
Dr. DivX is a commercial product - which you failed to mention.
You could have simply said, "You can also capture with Dr.DivX", instead of posting "everything ever written" about it...Comment

yeah i tried dr divx but it would capture the sound properly. perhaps theyll fix that in future release. thanks for the other recommendations, ill give them a try.Comment
