TMPGEnc Help

Hi There,

I am converting an AVI file to MPEG-2 format to create a SVCD.

On the second screen of the wizard, i am asked to select my video, and my audio file.

Now usually, when i select my video file, it automatically sets the audio file box to the same filename (as both the audio and video is in the same avi file).

However it doesn't

I can load alternate AVI files and it accepts it fine, but when i try loading the same file into the audio file field, i get "cannot open or is unsupported".

I am sure that all of my codecs are installed OK?

Can anybody suggest what i am doing wrong, or even sugegst an alternate program that would be able to convert this file?

It seemst that this particular avi has a audiostream wrapped in
that is not supported by TMPEG......
this can have several reasons why.....

would you be so good to load your special avi into virtualdub
or nandub or virtualdub mod go to the file dropdown menue
and then hit file information.... then post here EVEYthing it sais...

if you do not own one of these programs you can also use
"Gspot" to check it ... in this case simply do a screenshot and post it here....

you have two problems as I can see.....
first might be the xvid codec.... go and get yourself the FFdshow codec install it and set it to decode xvid movies...
this works around some problems Tmpeg might have decoding
Xvid ......

the second is the AC3 5 channel audio file. there are two workarounds for this problem....

the first was suggested by setarip some time ago......

""Unknown (tag 2000)", which I'm quite sure was the information, is a reference to .AC3 format audio. Download and install an .AC3 codec/filter.

Reboot your system.

Then, in TMPGEnc, under "Environmental Settings", set the "Direct Show Multimedia Reader" to the highest priority listed ("1" is usually sufficient.

TMPGEnc will now be able to process both the video and audio streams of this file..."

make sure to have an ac3 filter and a Xvid codec installed
or the FFDshow codec instead of xvid!!!


if this does not solve your problem proceed like this:








load your file into virtualdub MOD newest version (Not virtual dub)

demux your audiofile by choosing -->stream-->streamlist-->demux-->"filename".ac3
use the program "Headac3 he" to process it to wav.....

then use your original avi to be a source for the tmpeg videosource
and the headac3 he outputfile as audiosource
